Understanding the sea
2020
The wooden stacking toy was a project I worked on for children that are 2 years old and above, the pieces can be used individually to create different modules. These encourage children to build with their imagination.
I based the design on the modular principles of repetition of base figure and color that allows children as young as 2 or 3 years old to play with the pieces and assemble many shapes.
The design was inspired by marine life and the contrasts that can occur between the colors that many of these species have.
The simple shapes of the pieces were thought to be suitable for 2-year-olds to assemble and disassemble, but with the painted design, on top, so they have the complexity for 3 years old and above, to identify the elements, characters and allow for creativity and imagination with the shapes.
For a better understanding of the design I created a mockup, the next images contemplate the process of it.
