Identidades del Océano or Ocean Identities is a series of xylography's that weigh the importance of the ocean on the representation, creation, and development of identity in human beings and their different environments.
The work represents five moments where people or animals interacted/interact with the sea in different ways. And how this identity has led to a capitalistic society that considers itself greater than the sea, causing the extinction of species and the contamination of these spaces that were initially generators of identity, culture, and life.
Colors were a very important part of the development in this project, specifically to avoid using sea-related shades. This is because of the psychological and sentimental weight that most people associate these shades with. Blue is usually related to stability, harmony, peace, calm, and confidence. While I didn't mind the idea that my works carry that emotional weight, I had to balance it through the whole series and represent various feelings.
Each of the pieces has a specific name to identify its moment, transgression, and purpose.
